The ladies Quarter Finals at the Australian Open get underway on Wednesday with top seed Simona Halep headlining as she continues her push to a maiden Grand Slam win.

Simona Halep [1] v Karolina Pliskova [6]

Halep opened her campaign here with a win of Australian teenage wild card Destanee Aiava 7-6, 6-1. In Round 2, Halep was at her absolute best as she decimated the talented Canadian Eugenie Bouchard 6-2, 6-2. The third round saw Halep forced into an epic battle with American Lauren Davis, with a long third set which eventually went Halep’s way as she won 4-6, 6-4, 15-13. Halep made light work of Japanese Teenager Naomi Osaka in the fourth round, winning 6-3, 6-2.

The sixth seed Pliskova had a solid first round win against world number 80 player Veronica Cepede Royg 6-3, 6-4. Pliskova then took just 44 minutes to end Beatriz Haddad Maia’s campaign, winning 6-1, 6-1. In the third round she came up against fellow Czech and 29th seed Lucie Safarova. Pliskova prevailed in a long straight sets win 7-6, 7-5. She came against another fellow country woman in the fourth round in 20th seed Barbora Strycova. Their match lasted nearly 3 hours before Pliskova prevailed 6-7, 6-3, 6-2.

Angelique Kerber [21] v Madison Keys [17]

21st seed here Kerber has been in very strong form so far. She blitzed her first round compatriot Anna-Lena Friedsham 6-0, 6-4 and was just as ruthless in her second round demolition of Donna Vekic 6-4, 6-1. In the third round, Kerber was even more brilliant, hammering Maria Sharapova 6-1, 6-3. She dropped her first set of the tournament in the fourth round to Su Wei Hsieh, but came from behind to win 4-6, 7-5, 6-2.

American Madison Keys has been in similarly impressive form here. She beat Qiang Wang in a challenging open round, 6-1, 7-5. In the second round she took just 41 minutes to hammer Ekaterina Alexandrova 6-0, 6-1. She then beat Ana Bogdan in the third round comfortably 6-3, 6-4 before despatching 8th seed Caroline Garcia 6-3, 6-2.
