History

There have been 235 games between these two sides with the Magpies winning 128 to the Bombers 103, with a further 4 games drawn. Collingwood has won the last two clashes, the most recent being in Round 16 last year by 37 points.

Form

Collingwood had an average season last year finishing down in 13th place. They carried their unimpressive form into Round 1 this year when they failed to threaten Hawthorn, going down 101-67. They were much better in Round 2, despite again losing 95-79 to Greater Western Sydney. Collingwood finally scored a win albeit not convincingly, over the lowly Carlton by 4 goals. In Round 4 the Pies flogged the highly fancied Crows by 8 goals.

Essendon returned to finals football last year after the turmoil of the ASADA scandal distracted their 2015 campaign before robbing them of their star players in 2016. They began their 2018 campaign with an impressive 2 goal win over Adelaide. They couldn’t follow it up though and they lost in Round 2 to the Dockers by 16. They lost again in Round 3 to the Bulldogs by 21 points. Last week they hit back with a 22 point victory over Port.
